Saturday Six #99

Saturday Six 99By all rights I should be on a cleanse this weekend. That statement in and of itself cracks me up because I am writing it after just returning from dim sum. For the second time this week.  That’s right I have officially earned the badge of “glutton” with all the eating I did this past week.

My colleague from London, whom I had just visited a few week ago was in town this week. A perfect excuse for the small team I work with to get out and eat.  We are all foodies, which is a dangerous thing, as there is no one reasonable to say, “we just had an amazing lunch, isn’t dinner tonight a little over the top?”   Nope. No one on our team would have such crazy thoughts – which is one of the reasons I love my team!

We started the week with lunch at Chez Papa in the Potrero Hill area of San Francisco (photos here).  Had an amazing dinner at Kokkari in the Financial District (photos here).  We took Wednesday off and hit it hard on Thursday with lunch at Yank Sing (photos here) near the Embarcadero and dinner at Blowfish Sushi to Die For (photos here) which is an appropriate name as there ever was because it describes the sushi in a nutshell!

That’s just the damage I did with my team. With Mr. Misadventures we had our favorite Vietnamese at Mint Leaf here in Berkeley as well as Cafe Rouge for lunch yesterday and yes, dim sum this morning.  Whew! If there was an Olympic game for restaurant adventures I would have been a medal winner this week!

You can catch pieces of these food adventures in various places such as Instagram, Foodspotting or FourSquare.  I am not doing my daily photo series or extra photos here, I have moved them over to what was my much neglected Tumblr which I have started using a lot more in the last two weeks and will continue to do so.

Wow! See what happens when I don’t blog every day? You can’t get me to shut up!  This post is about you and the great stuff you are writing, so with out further delay, here are my picks for this week’s Saturday Six.

[1] I cannot tell you how much I loved Christine of C’est Christine’s post this week, “This is your life.”  I absolutely believe that you own your life.  That you control it.  I know the Universe has plans for all of us, but how you choose to live with those plans makes or breaks the person.  We all have bad things happen to us, but it is how we react to them that shows personal strength.  I believe if you want something bad enough you can make it happen!  Christine’s post is very inspiring!

[2] In my professional life I have to concern myself with what Millenials think and want.  I also happen to have two Millenials working for me and two Millenial colleagues who I spend a lot of time with at work as well. They are all absolutely fantastic,  but I know that this is not always the case. My blogging pal Jen who writes at Jen X Generation mainly about Generation X also does do great posts comparing them to other generations and it was a tweet from her that led me to this post from Emme Rogers on the generation that they also call Generation Me.  It is a fascinating read.

[3] This past week we saw many cities celebrating Macaron Day including of course Paris. And Lindsey of Lost in Cheeseland was in the thick of it!  She details her adventures in her “fake” Franco File post with Pierre Hermé, one of the two main macaron creators (the other being Ladurée) in Paris.  And for more from Lindsey, she wrote a fantastic article that included her Paris Picks for the new travel magazine, Wayfare.

[4] I have said it before about Joy of Oh Joy! but I want to spend a week in Los Angeles eating with her!  I love her snack and food choices and I know we would get along like old friends!  This week she published her Top 20 Los Angeles bites for 2011 and I want to try them all!

[5] Outside of the U.S. Mad Men is not such a big deal, but stateside we are addicted to it!  It has been incredibly hard to wait an entire year between Season 4 and 5, the delay killed most of us.  The new season begins again this week and one of my blogging buds, Clarabela of Just Chick Flicks is a super-fan and she has done a really fun post with some of her predictions for Season 5.

[6] Vicki Archer of French Essence shared the first part of her Provence tips and trips last week (Saturday Six #98, see #6). This week she continues with the series this week with how to get around and as she lives there she really ought to know best and I will definitely heed these suggestions when I get to this beautiful part of France in the future.
